Our mission:
Welcome to My First Shiba Inu!
At My First Shiba, our mission is simple. We're here to provide you with the absolute best information about the Shiba Inu dog breed. Period.
We want to share our passion for the Shiba Inu breed and provide practical education on their care while promoting responsible adoption and purchasing practices.
Our aim is to make life with your Shiba Inu happier, healthier, and as joyous as possible.
We focus on providing scientifically-backed articles that bring value to our readers - not just fluffy copy.
We’re especially focused on proper nutrition and how to feed and “please” your Shiba as best as possible.
We're committed to responsible pet ownership - in fact it’s our passion. We encourage adopting from shelters and rescue organizations as the first choice.
If you're considering buying from a breeder, we’ll do our best to guide you in the direction of finding a breeder that prioritizes the well-being of Shibas above all else.
Because gaining the love and respect of a Shiba is something…. Well it’s something only Shiba Inu owners will understand.
We don't claim to be Shiba Inu experts (though we like to think we are.) But we're definitely not just "Internet Opinions".
Rather we are die-hard, studied and loyal Shiba Inu owners who will go great lengths to connect you with experts throughout the vast Shiba Inu network of fanciers, breeders, trainers, and health professionals.
Heard of a woman named Oprah before? Her success wasn't due to being an expert in any particular field.
Rather it was her way (and her personality) of bringing together the right sources and experts together.
So that's kind of like us. Shiba - Oprahs.
WE LOVE SCIENCE!!
In an ever-evolving environment of information overload full of half-truths and even potentially dangerous advice.
We strive for better.
All the information we provide is backed up by clinical studies as well as experts in the topic field.
We know that knowledge can yield a lot of power … both positively and negatively.
We want to provide you with the knowledge that will positively enrich the lives of your Shiba and your humans.
Our Team:
Jennifer Tsukamoto (Founder of My First Shiba / Kawaii Shiba Co.)
"Jen" has been a Shiba Inu owner, advocate and enthusiast for almost 20 years.
Jen has extensive knowledge of the Shiba Inu dog breed from the many years of caring for her own pack of Shibas that included rescues, champion show dogs, and everything in between.
She's currently in the process of learning canine biology and canine genetics with the hopes of soon starting a small preservation breeding program in Hawaii.
Jen's main passion and purpose of this site is to spread breed awareness as well as to raise awareness of puppy mill cruelty.
She also handles topics on Shiba Inu nutrition, training, and health / lifestyle and particularly enjoys learning and collaborating with topic experts in various fields related to the health and happiness of Shiba Inus.
Jen's an enthusiastic advocate for fresh feeding, non-aversive training, and comprehensive breed education.
Christiane Yazot (Manager of Operations, Chief Shiba Spoiler)
Christiane's love for Shiba Inus is as deep as the deep blue ocean of the French Polynesian waters where she hails from.
She manages all the "boring" day to day operations of the website / social media as well as handling media and outreach campaigns.
The rest of her time is spent mostly being bossed around by her Shiba, Kitsune.
