Tips For Finding The Perfect Shiba Inu Dog Name
Congratulations on welcoming a new puppy or dog into your home! Also props to you for taking the time to do dog naming research!
Dog names are important.
Names are the first things others ask about your dog, so it is important to find a name that matches your dog's energy and personality.
The Best Length For a Shiba Inu Dog Name
You are going to be spending a lot of time calling your Shiba Inu dog. A lot.
Try your best to choose a short and simple name that contains just two syllables. Dog experts believe that two syllable dog names are easier for dogs to recognize - therefore training will be easier.
Secondly, try to find a name that begins with a 'hard' consonant sound versus a 'soft' consonant sound. Names that begin with a 'hard" consonant sound are much easier to hear for dogs.
For example it would be easier for your dog to distinguish a name such as "Gabby" which utilizes a hard G consonant over the name "Gemini" that utilizes a soft G consonant.
Never Use Your Dog's Name When Scolding or Correcting
You should never use your dog's name while your are scolding or correcting him or her.
It is important that your dog associates it's given name in a positive light. If your dog begins to form an association with scolding and it's name then your dog might began to fear its own name.
So instead of coming when your dog is called - your dog may instead be going somewhere else.
Look For a Shiba Inu Dog Name That Is Unique and Uncommon
Don't name your Shiba Inu dog 'Dude'. Especially if you live near a surfing community. Can you imagine how confused your dog will be hearing his name called out so often? This same logic goes for naming your dog after family members. Don't do it.
